Smart Alignment Tool for Knee MosaicPlasty Surgery

چکیده
The Smart Alignment Tool for Knee MosaicPlasty Surgery is a device that aids in aligning the MosaicPlasty harvesting chisel with the cartilage surface of the knee. In the standard arthroscopic procedure, the angle at which the graft is harvested and inserted is determined visually by the surgeon through a single endoscopic view. The ability of the surgeon to obtain and place these grafts in an orientation perpendicular to the cartilage surface determines, in large part, the efficacy of the procedure. By instrumenting the tool, the angle of the tool relative to the surface is fed back to the surgeon. Preliminary experiments show this greatly increases the accuracy and consistency of this task.

A prospective, randomised comparison of autologous chondrocyte implantation versus mosaicplasty for osteochondral defects in the knee.
Autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) and mosaicplasty are both claimed to be successful for the repair of defects of the articular cartilage of the knee but there has been no comparative study of the two methods. A total of 100 patients with a mean age of 31.3 years (16 to 49) and with a symptomatic lesion of the articular cartilage in the knee which was suitable for cartilage repair was r...
متن کاملMedium-term outcome of mosaicplasty for grade III-IV cartilage defects of the knee.
PURPOSE To evaluate the medium-term outcome of mosaicplasty for full-thickness cartilage defects of the knee joint in 17 patients. METHODS Records of 12 men and 5 women aged 16 to 57 (mean, 35) years who underwent mosaicplasty for grade III/IV osteochondral defects in the lateral (n=14) or medial (n=3) femoral condyle were reviewed. 12 of the patients had undergone knee surgeries. The mean si...
متن کاملKnee donor-site morbidity after mosaicplasty – a systematic review
BACKGROUND Mosaicplasty has been associated with good short- to long-term results. Nevertheless, the osteochondral harvesting is restricted to the donor-site area available and it may lead to significant donor-site morbidity. PURPOSE Provide an overview of donor-site morbidity associated with harvesting of osteochondral plugs from the knee joint in mosaicplasty procedure. METHODS Comprehens...
متن کاملThe Effect of Total Knee Arthroplasty on Hindfoot Alignment in Patients with Severe Genu Varum and Genu Valgum
Background: The maintenance of deformity in the ankle and hindfoot after correction of knee deformity following kneearthroplasty may cause abnormal tension in the knee and patient dissatisfaction. The aim of this study was to determinethe effect of knee arthroplasty on the hindfoot alignment in patients with severe genu varum and valgum. Methods: A total of 84 patients with pri...
متن کاملMorphological MRI and T2 mapping of cartilage repair tissue after mosaicplasty with tissue-engineered cartilage in a pig model
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of mosaicplasty with tissue-engineered cartilage for the treatment of osteochondral defects in a pig model with advanced MR technique. Eight adolescent miniature pigs were used. The right knee underwent mosaicplasty with tissue-engineered cartilage for treatment of focal osteochondral defects, while the left knee was repaired via single mosaicp...
